This class is for those who love to create things with their hands. Students will learn how to create a variety of decorative objects out of clay using a pottery wheel, slab roller and extruder. We’ll also experiment with different types of clay and colored glazes. Students are encouraged to bring an apron or towel, as well as clothing that can get messy, as working with clay is a hands-on creative process.
In addition to creating pieces to keep, students will create handmade bowls for an upcoming Empty Bowls event. Empty Bowls, founded in 2012, is a community-driven initiative to raise awareness about hunger, foster community connections, and generate funds for local organizations addressing hunger and homelessness.
Students will craft their own unique bowls, which will later be featured in the Empty Bowls event to help raise funds for various local organizations. This opportunity combines artistic exploration with meaningful community impact, allowing students to contribute to a cause while also learning a new skill!
A $35 supply fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class (cash, Venmo, or check). You will be notified when you can pick up your finished pieces from the Mahtomedi District Education Center.
