Take a docent-led Art Deco Tour of the Ramsey County Courthouse and Saint Paul City Hall. Tour the architecturally significant spaces and features within Saint Paul City Hall/Ramsey County Courthouse. It is a 21-story Art Deco skyscraper which opened to the public in 1932. The building serves as the main location for Minnesota’s Second Judicial Court and City Hall. It contains The Vision of Peace, the world’s largest carved onyx statue. The building has 23 kinds of wood from 18 countries and various marbles throughout. This is a working building; not all rooms are available to tour at all times. The building is subject to security issues and government regulations that may require last-minute restrictions and changes.Visitors will be walking and standing for approximately 90-minutes.
We will have lunch at the Union Depot's, 1881 Eating House, which reflects the style and quality of the Lake Elmo Inn family. After lunch we will have a guided narrated tour of the Union Depot. St. Paul’s elegant Neo-Classical Union Depot was the dream of railroad baron James J. Hill. Completed in 1926, it was the largest construction project of the 20th century in St. Paul. Hear how the railroads literally shaped the city of St Paul and about the fiery past that led to the current depot’s creation. Learn why it was also important to gangsters and prohibitionists. You will also enjoy the Neo-Classical architecture and beautiful public art. Visitors will be walking and standing for approximately 60 minutes. Menu Choice:
