February 2025 - Black History Month and Painting
In this camp we will learn about the impact and influence of African American Art and Artists in the United States. We will study the paintingsof and learn about Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold, and Alma Woodsley Thomas. Using tempera paints we will create our own abstract paintings drawing inspiration from things that are important to us created in the style of artwork similar to Alma Woodsley Thomas.
March 2025 - Women's History Month and Drawing
Artists will learn about the contributions women have made to art throughout history. We will explore the works of Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keeffe, Maya Lin and Mary Cassat, to name a few! We will create an oil pastel drawing of a flower, using the grid method and inspired by the artwork of Georgia O'Keeffe. It is certain to be a great way to bring spring to the halls of Mahtomedi Middle School!
