  • 3D Printing: Dungeons & Dragons (completed grades 1-4)

    Learn the ins and outs of 3D Design and 3D printing with TinkerCAD! TinkerCAD will teach you 3D design and 3D printing! While learning 3D design skills, students will make custom D&D D4s (4-sided) and D10s (10-sided). They'll also do fun D&D-inspired challenges in TinkerCAD's SimLab.     Learn 3D design and modeling skills using Tinkercad while creating a wand, then create your own magical pendant. Create fun designs to complete different magical CAD challenges. This course will introduce students to using CAD modeling & design software. They'll also do fun Hogwarts-inspired challenges in TinkerCAD's SimLab.   • ACT Test Prep Courses - Summer 2024

    Mahtomedi Community Education is pleased to partner with Advantage Educational Programs. For the past 26 years, Advantage Educational Programs benefited thousands of students in Minnesota by preparing them for the college entrance exams. They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than forty high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. These courses are designed for students who wish to improve their test-taking skills and improve their overall scores on the college entrance exams. Students who finish the course increase their scores significantly. Advantage Education will provide an introduction to the ACT format with strategies for answering questions, as well as instruction for the specific subject areas tested. Focal points of the program include diagnostic testing, vocabulary development, intensive mathematical review, reading comprehension improvement, science reasoning, concentration improvement, overcoming test anxiety, essay writing, and time management. Make up classes are available. THREE OPTIONS are available to register for the ACT Test Prep Course: In-person classroom The course includes diagnostic testing, instruction in time management, overcoming test anxiety, science reasoning, English strategies and review, essay writing, reading comprehension, and math strategies and review. Students enrolled in these classes not only benefit from personal instruction taught by our experienced instructors, but also have free access to our online course. May repeat this course online at no extra charge. In-school at Mahtomedi High School. Virtual classroom Virtual classroom meets for three hours, one day each week, for four weeks and is taught live, via zoom, by an Advantage instructor who provides instruction and interaction with the students. Internet connection and access to a computer or laptop is required. Class recordings are available for students who need to make up any missed classes. Online at your own pace Online students prep for the ACT at their own pace and around their busy schedules. Instruction is pre-recorded and provided online via videos and slides. Students may access this course at any time and as often as needed. Upon request, students who are registered for the In-School ACT Prep Course or the Virtual ACT Prep Course can also request access to this online course at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.     You – are – the - lead scientist in charge of exploring alien technology and funky, gooey, gunky, gloppy slimes! In your Lab, you’ll discover and explore the properties of different exciting alien slime every day!   • Battle Drones (completed grades 4-8)

    Battle Drones features an exciting combination of aerial acrobatics with an engineering design challenge that will teach students STEM concepts, teamwork, and how to skillfully fly a drone. In Battle Drones, teams of students will build robotic launchers designed to fling projectiles at their opponents’ drones. Students will be guided by experienced camp instructors in how to construct their launchers to maximize projectile speed and accuracy. The camp will culminate in an epic battle where students will need to pilot their drones to safety by dodging opponent projectiles while using their own launchers to take down opponent drones. The best drone pilots and launchers will emerge victorious! Option to purchase drone and bring it home at the end of the course, or use one of the drones provided by the instructor.   • College Application Bootcamp - Class of 2025

    Students will spend two mornings learning about the college application process in this bootcamp created for Mahtomedi High School class of 2025. They will leave with a thorough understanding of the college application and financial aid process, what to expect, how/when to complete each step, and what resources are available at Mahtomedi High School. This class is led by a current Mahtomedi High School Counselor, but students will also hear from college admission reps from the University of Minnesota, University of St. Thomas and Century College. They will also work with Mahtomedi High School English teachers on writing essays. They will take away a personalized list of potential colleges including reach, match, and “safety” schools, a completed Common Application, a college essay draft, and a completed resume for use when requesting letters of recommendation, scholarship apps, etc.
  • Cook Like Nick Digiovanni (completed grades 5-8)

    Open to students who will be in grades 6-9 for the 2024-25 school year. You’ve seen Nick Digiovanni on MasterChef and as a YouTube star. Now, get in the kitchen and cook just like him!     Get your adrenaline running this summer with this super exciting camp. Are you intrigued by Drones? Would you like to learn more about this amazing technology? What about learning to fly them and participate in aerial races? Learn the science behind flight? Then this camp is for you! Not only will you race drones against your friends, you’ll also learn about model rocketry and pick up how to shoot rockets up to 300 feet and more up into “space”!     Eureka Engineering introduces students to the core skills of robotics and STEM through engaging, hands-on learning opportunities. Student groups will work with Lego Mindstorm kits, which include both electrical and mechanical components. The small groups will be mentored by experienced and passionate instructors. Parents are welcome to watch their child’s robotic creations come to life in exciting and competitive challenges including drag racing, fighting robots and more! Instructor: COR Robotics

    Students will program robots to move, act and think on their own. Discover the excitement of programming your creation to follow a command and watch it go. Our classes are fun, educational, and hands-on, teaching students the foundations of building and programming concepts.   • Flower Pot Painting: Spring is Here! (grades 6-12)

    Let’s explore and join our delightful "Blooms in Color" flower pot painting class! This creative workshop is designed for individuals of all skill levels, from beginners eager to explore their artistic side to seasoned painters looking for a new and vibrant project.   • GRASP - Math and Reading Workbooks (completing grades K-5)

    Stop the Summer Slide! A 9-week at-home study and correspondence program for grades K-5, which helps students review and maintain reading and math skills while on summer vacation. GRASP is perfect for those who enjoy studying and learning with a workbook. Each student receives their own summer learning packet, which includes workbooks, answer sheets, instructions and pre-addressed envelopes for mail-in grading. Each family will mail in their worksheets weekly for professional grading and assessment. Choose one or both subjects. Students do a little more than one lesson per week. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, April 26 No refunds after registration deadline. First lesson can begin June 14 and last lesson is due August 9. $44 per packet Be sure to provide your email address as all results will be emailed unless you opt out.     Learn the basics of game design in this class using the hit game, Roblox. Create your own 3D games in Roblox Studio!   • Kids SEW Cool: Summer Shorts and Alphabet Pillow (completed grades 3-5)

    If you’ve never sewn shorts before, it’s easier than you think. Shorts are the perfect project for a beginner to tackle. And if you’re a seasoned sewer then you know just what we’re talking about! In little time you can cut, sew, and whip up a pair of shorts you can wear all summer long.
