Mahtomedi Community Education is pleased to partner with Advantage Educational Programs. For the past 26 years, Advantage Educational Programs benefited thousands of students in Minnesota by preparing them for the college entrance exams. They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than forty high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. These courses are designed for students who wish to improve their test-taking skills and improve their overall scores on the college entrance exams. Students who finish the course increase their scores significantly. Advantage Education will provide an introduction to the ACT format with strategies for answering questions, as well as instruction for the specific subject areas tested. Focal points of the program include diagnostic testing, vocabulary development, intensive mathematical review, reading comprehension improvement, science reasoning, concentration improvement, overcoming test anxiety, essay writing, and time management. Make up classes are available. THREE OPTIONS are available to register for the ACT Test Prep Course: In-person classroom The course includes diagnostic testing, instruction in time management, overcoming test anxiety, science reasoning, English strategies and review, essay writing, reading comprehension, and math strategies and review. Students enrolled in these classes not only benefit from personal instruction taught by our experienced instructors, but also have free access to our online course. May repeat this course online at no extra charge. In-school at Mahtomedi High School. Virtual classroom This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend an in-school class, but still prefers the interaction with one of our Advantage instructors. The Virtual ACT Prep Course is the same as the In-School ACT Prep Course, but from the comfort of your own home. Instructors teach live via our virtual classroom and are available to answer questions if needed. May repeat this course at no charge. (Zoom class) Online at your own pace This course is designed for any student preferring to prepare for the ACT exam on their own schedule and at their own pace. Once enrolled, students are sent an access code for their class and can access any time. May repeat the course at no charge. Ashland Theater: Giants in the Sky (grades 3-5) This magical story explores the world of Giants who live above the clouds. Ever since they left Earth a long time ago, the Giants have made a life up above where their job is to keep the sky beautiful. They polish the stars, poke the clouds to let it rain and paint the sunsets. But there is one curious Giant who wonders what life is like on Earth, so she steals a key to the locked up “beanstalk” and embarks on an adventure down below! Join the fun in the after school MathCounts Club, Mahtomedi Middle School’s state and regionally ranked club. Work on math problems and skills (from basic math through algebra and geometry) and prepare throughout the session for chapter competition. Nailed It (grades 3-5) Calling all creative kids! This is the perfect camp to hone both your artistic side and your puzzle-solving skills. Just like on the popular TV show Nailed It!, we’ll show you a final product and give you all the goods needed to recreate it. The rest is up to you! Your challenges will include creating a unicorn cake sculpture that looks good enough to eat, painting a fox at sunset, a llama with a flower crown, and so much more.
